Stabilization of a 1-D tank modeled by the shallow water equations

چکیده
Abstract We consider a tank containing a fluid. The tank is subjected to a onedimensional horizontal move and the motion of the fluid is described by the shallow water equations. By means of a Lyapunov approach, we deduce control laws to stabilize the fluid’s state and the tank’s position. Although global asymptotic stability is yet to be proved, we numerically simulate the system and observe the stabilization for different control situations.

Stabilization of a 1-D tank containing a fluid modeled by the shallow water equations
Consider a rectangular tank containing an inviscid incompressible and irrotational 'uid. The tank is subject to a one-dimensional horizontal move (the control) and the motion of the 'uid is described by the shallow water equations. By means of a Lyapunov approach, control laws that stabilize the state of the 'uid–tank system are derived. Two classes of control are considered: full-state feedbac...
متن کاملPART 7 Controllability , Observability
We consider a 1-D tank containing an inviscid incompressible irrotational fluid. The tank is subject to one-dimensional horizontal moves. We assume that the horizontal acceleration of the tank is small compared to the gravity constant and that the height of the fluid is small compared to the length of the tank. This motivates the use of the Saint-Venant equations [5] (also called shallow water ...

The directional response and roll stability characteristics of a partly filled tractor semi-trailer vehicle, with cylindrical tank, are investigated in various maneuvers. The dynamic interaction of liquid cargo with the tractor semi-trailer vehicle is also evaluated by integrating a dynamic slosh model of the partly filled tank with five-degrees-of-freedom of a tractor semi-trailer tank mode...
متن کاملA BOUNDARY-FITTED SHALLOW WATER MODEL OF SIMULATE TIDE AND SURGE FOR THE HEAD BAY OF BENGAL – APPLICATION TO CYCLONE SIDR (2007) AND AILA (2009)
Severe Tropical Cyclones associated with surges frequently hits the coastal region of Bangladesh. For a reliable hydrodynamic model to simulate the severity of such cyclones, it is necessary to incorporate the meteorological and hydrological inputs properly. In order to incorporate the coastlines and the island boundaries properly in the numerical scheme a very fine grid resolution along the co...
متن کاملSpace-time Discontinuous Galerkin Method for Rotating Shallow Water Flows
In the present work, we analyze the rotating shallow water equations including bottom topography using a space-time discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. The method results in non-linear equations per element, which are solved locally by establishing the element communication with a numerical HLLC flux. To deal with spurious oscillations around discontinuities, we employ a stabilization...
